Chapter 280

Ever since he was a child his father would talk about this place that was the Federation expressing how majestic it was. He had promised he would take him there one day and show him this wonderful place just like his own father had.

He watched his father slave away in the laboratory trying to perfect the technology to perform a space jump.

But after years of sleepless nights and no success, his father finally worked himself to death dying before his very eyes.

Grief-stricken his mother and uncles tried to persuade him to not be like his father and let it go.

He also thought his father was crazy. How can such a place exist? A place where people fought in giant machines and had powers beyond comprehension. A place where there was plenty of food and water that was even wasted and fed to livestock. A place where one would close their eyes and sleep peacefully without worrying about what sort of creature would crawl into their house and eat their entire family. A place where illness was easily cured at a cost close to nothing.

Such a place sounded like paradise but he didn’t pursue it. He didn’t believe in this great phoenix myth passed down from generation to generation. Thus he didn’t follow in his father’s footsteps. Well, that is until he stumbled upon his father’s secret room years into his reign. He didn’t even remember how exactly he stumbled into this place but he definitely remembered what he found.

There was endless footage of the Onyx Federation recorded by the kings before him who had been to the Federation by chance. Within the thousands of years, there were several kings who had inherited a rare gift to space jump but their ability was so weak that they could only perform one or two space jumps to the Oynx Federation.

What they saw was recorded and they would pass it on to their children so they could see what the future of the Republic could look like.

.....

There were even souvenirs and images of what their distant distant cousins who shared the same surname as them looked like. All this information made him determined. He was determined to continue his father’s work and bring the Republic to a brighter future.

After decades of trying to finish his father’s project and perform a space jump, he finally suceeded.

What he was met with though when he reached the Federation wasn’t the infamous Capital Star but a remote planet with a villa in the middle of nowhere.

He knew he only had a single jump left because his device didn’t have fuel cells powerful enough to perform multiple jumps. He had to make this space jump worthwhile as he didn’t have a second chance. He explored the mansion and by sheer coincidence, he saw an injured man in a healing capsule recuperating.

His injuries were extensive but he had a feeling that if he didn’t grab this man he would have failed the Republic. When time was up he took the healing capsule with the man with him. Who would have thought he brought back with him his distant cousin who could perform space jumps at will?

When he found out their relation he paraded him in the capital city where plenty gathered to see their so-called savior.

While he was showing him off things went south and the man almost died because he had taken him out of the healing capsule before he was healed enough.

Everyone including him thought the man was dead but when he placed him back in the capsule the man’s breath was restored.

He came to a realization. If he took him out of the healing capsule the man would die thus he kept him a few levels below the temple.

After years of going through all the research by the people before him, he found a way to manipulate the man’s mind forcing him to open portals into the Federation.

The system wasn’t perfect but it indeed brought chaos to the Federation. He could even transport vicious creatures across the Federation and wreak havoc. These attacks were merely a part of it. He wanted to cripple the Federation but that was only a small part of his plans.

What he truly wanted above all else was this man’s child. Whoever he was, he was the only one who was in full health and could perform space jumps like his father.

With such a secret weapon he was certain that he would be able to destroy the Federation and bring his people to a new home where they could live without worrying about their safety or their next meal.

One might ask how he knew how this distant relative of his had a child. It was because when he entered the villa he saw a nursery. Thus he knew this man must have a child in the Federation.

But despite manipulating this man’s mind and getting him to open several portals through space he would never disclose who his child was nor would he expose his wife which was incredibly frustrating.

He thought maybe if he sent his people there he might find out who this child was but all of them were dead. What he didn’t know was that his distant cousin had problems of his own and he wanted to protect his wife and child at any cost.

He would rather have the entire Federation believe he was dead in order to protect his family. The same people his ancestors had saved had turned against him and wanted to acquire his family secrets.

With a few taps, the elevator door reached the lowest floor below the temple and as the door slid open he exited the elevator and found his distant cousin lying in the healing capsule with so many cables attached to it.

The man still had his eyes closed but he knew that his distant cousin could hear everything they said. He slowly caressed the glass of the healing capsule and asked, “Cousin... did you miss me?.... You might not miss me but in fact, I missed you.”
