Chapter 1390: Spirit Devouring Devil
Chapter 1390: Spirit Devouring Devil
Swhoosh!
I appeared in the temporary supply camp in Ancient Chaotic Secret Realm.
I looked around. Despite the time, a lot of players were still turning in their quests and stuff. I checked my equipment next. My Chill of the Nine Provinces had only 11% durability left, and my two greatest defensive pieces of equipment, the Guardian Dragon Armor and Cyan Dragon Shield, were both below 40% durability. I must repair them before I continue on my journey, or it will quickly become impossible to do anything.
So, I paid an obscene amount of gold to repair my equipment and restocked on potions. Speaking of potions, the dozens of stacks of Rank 13 Dragonheart Orchid Agents Lin Yixin had given me a long time ago were barely touched because they were just that precious. I seldom used them unless I was in a life-or-death situation, a war or a boss fight.
……
Ten or so minutes later after Beiming Xue came online, I carried her on the Ancient Divine Dragon and flew toward our agreed meeting point. On the way, I read up on the latest happenings. The ten Sovereign Rank bosses in the Ancient Chaotic Secret Realm had all been killed, but the Infinite Quiver and the Flying Dragon Wristguards remained the only two Ghost Armaments to have dropped from them. Discounting them, the best equipment to have dropped from the Sovereign Rank bosses was a Cambrian Divine Armament. It looked like everyone’s luck was just so-so.
Thud!
After I landed on the plains and put Beiming Xue down I activated Fusion Armor and walked up to Chaos Moon and Heaven’s Rain. I heard someone saying, "Finally, the corps commander returns to us…"
Chaos Moon also shot me a dissatisfied look. "You were ten minutes late. What do you have to say for yourself?"
I shot her an embarrassed smile and apologized, "Forgive me, I had some real life business I had to deal with!"
While looking to the distance, I asked, "There are no more transport carts left on this map, right?"
Heaven’s Rain replied, "Yeah. In fact, they were cleared out two hours ago. Our next step is to cross over Ancient Chaotic Secret Realm and make it to a ruin that is situated on the west, but there is a Purgatory Legion fortress blocking the way. We won’t be able to make it through without conquering the fortress. This is a large-scale quest that’ll kick off in 30 minutes!"
"30 minutes? We better start making our way over then…"
"Yeah!"
……
After everyone’s attendance was confirmed, I assumed command of my 15k-strong party and continued westward. Chaos Moon’s 10000-man party was following next to us as well.
We passed through a ghastly forest and arrived at a giant clearing that smelled of blood. Two mountain ranges that looked like giant gods blocked the way forward, and the only exit between them was blocked by a gigantic, blood-red fortress that was almost 5 km long. Undead creatures filled the top and the bottom of the walls, and their levels were all pretty high. This wasn’t going to be easy!
I waved my hand and brought up the contribution point ranking interface. It was drastically different from what I saw last time—
1、Breeze and Rain (India) Points: 730090
2、Broken Halberd Sinks Into Sand (China) Points: 720930
3、Tear Stain (Korea) Points: 647280
4、Wind Fantasy (China) Points: 621170
5、Vienna’s Sorrow (USA) Points: 572820
6、Candlelight Shadow (China) Points: 552200
7、God of War (India) Points: 542730
8、Luo River God of the Capital (China) Points: 540900
9、Lian Xin (China) Points: 498760
10、Legendary Brave (China) Points: 482170
……
I was offline for almost 10 hours, and I was still sitting strong in second place. It showed just how much higher my score was compared to everyone else before I logged out. Now that I was back, it should only take me an hour or less to return to the first place and secure the MVP reward for China. It would also be great to deny yet another Twelve Divine Armament or Seventy Two Ghost Armament from the other servers!
During the late stages of a war, victory usually went to the server with the highest amount of Ancient Divine Skill owners and Twelve Divine Armaments, Seventy-two Ghost Armaments and Ancient Divine Armaments. If the China server came to own between 5 to 9 Twelve Divine Armaments and 20 to 50 Seventy-two Ghost Armaments, then our enemies would really have to think if it was even possible to defeat us. Meanwhile, all we needed to do was to sit on our asses and cower the other servers to submissions with our hoard of legendary equipment. When we became so strong that no one would even think to challenge us, who else could the true kings of Heavenblessed but we?
Rustle rustle..
My boots rustled against a patch of dead grass as I stared at a gigantic light blue screen about ten or so meters in front of us. No player could pass it until it disappeared of its own accord. Behind it was of course the fortress everyone wanted a piece of.
Ding~!
System Notice: Godslayer Fortress will be open to all players in 17 minutes. Please note that the patch mission will fail if the Godslayer Fortress does not go down in 10 hours. Moreover, a terrifying devil slumbers beneath the Godslayer Fortress. Once the fortress is conquered, the devil will awaken and bring forth a great calamity. Beware!
……
It didn’t take long for the land outside the screen to become jam-packed with players. It wasn’t just the China server who showed up—in fact, we only had enough players to fill up around 30% of the 5-kilometer long fortress—the Northern Alliance, India, Japan, Chaotic 27 and more servers had shown up as well. This was a server wide mission, and practically everyone who was over Level 200 had come to participate. Practically no one below Level 200 was stupid enough to show up.
In the sky, my beautiful guild leader, He Yi was gripping her Suppressing Fire Sword and standing on top of her Snow Crystal Dragon when she ordered, "Lu Chen, Li Chengfeng, Gui Guzi, Xu Yang, please join up our parties so we won’t get into unnecessary conflicts with the other guilds. Let’s try and become the first force to break through the Godslayer Fortress first!"
"Yeah!"
Everyone nodded and got to work quickly. Very soon, all our parties met up and occupied a small section of the clearing to the east of the fortress. Dragonlight Cavalry were standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their shields held in front of them, and us manager-Level players such as Gui Guzi, Li Chengfeng, Chaos Moon and I were standing together as well. While patting his Blue Crystal Dragon’s head, Li Chengfeng asked, "Thank goodness the Blue Crystal Dragon can turn into an armor just like your Ancient Divine Dragon when it reaches Level 200. It’s so unwieldy sometimes… speaking of which, what level is the Ancient Divine Dragon right now, Lu Chen? You still struggling to Level it?"
I shot him a glance. "Duh? It’s Level 197 right now. It will enter the Divine Awakening Stage when it reaches Level 200, but the benefits I will get are still unknown. We’ll see. Hopefully, my little dragon will hit Level 200 by the time this March of Chaos event is over. This leveling speed is seriously fucked up, man."
Gui Guzi smiled. "Focus. There’s only 1 minute left before the screen disappears. Kill more mobs and earn more contribution points, and all your problems will magically go away. By the way, look to our right. I don’t know if they’re doing it on purpose, Cyan Earth City’s Cyan Beast has been moving closer toward us. Do you think it’s a test, or…?"
Li Chengfeng’s eyes turned steely. "Heh. Cyan Beast supposedly has 100k Gold Cavalry right now, so I bet they’re planning to test out their new cavalrymen on us. It may even be a direction from God of War himself."
I said seriously, "Little Xin, Beiming, tell our Holy Mages and Dragonlight Archers to standby for anything. If Cyan Beast does attack us, do not hesitate to treat them to a hell of ice and fire!"
Both girls responded smilingly, "Understood, big bro!"
……
Swhoosh!
As it turned out, we didn’t need to launch an attack on the fortress when the blue screen finally disappeared. The undead creatures beneath the walls roared and rushed toward us themselves. They were all a kind of monster with an elongated head, huge, long tongue, a full body of scales, and an iron whip for a tail. This was also the first time we saw such a creature. I scanned its stats with Dark Pupils and shared it in the guild channel—
Spirit Devouring Devil (Fiend)
Level: 300
Attack: 49000~57500
Defense: 70000
HP: 4400000
Skills: Dark Pierce, Strength of Two Arms, Spirit Devouring
Introduction: The Spirit Devouring Devil is an undead warrior who was devilized and the masterpiece of a high-level undead magus. By tempering a normal human’s body with magic and death energy, they are given abnormally tough scales, impossibly quick reaction, and arms strong enough to shatter rocks. It is said that they can steal their enemy’s life force as well. The Spirit Devouring Devils are usually raised in the depths of hell only, so if one were to appear on the Human Domain, it means that a true calamity has befallen the world.
……
"Holy shit, Level 300? Its stats are almost as good as a boss\'s too!" Gui Guzi complained.
Chaos Moon asked, "How are we doing this? We fight aggression with aggression, or?"
I replied, "Calm down, girl. Frontliners, stay your ground and counterattack the mobs without breaking formation. Bards, make sure that our Dragonlight Cavalry are fully buffed. Priests, prepare to heal them at any moment. Archers and mages, we’re relying on your to dish out the DPS this time. Finally, no one is to underestimate these Spirit Devouring Devils. They are numerous, and they’ll easily sweep even us off our feet if we are careless!"
Everyone nodded in unison.
Like animals, the Spirit Devouring Devils ran on all fours with their mouths open and their tongue lolling. Their bloodshot eyes were full of violence, and their arms looked as strong as their description claimed. Moreover, there were bone blades sticking out of their arms. It was clearly their Spirit Devouring Devil’s primary method of attack.
However, a lot of guild leaders still ordered their guilds to charge the mobs. Their cavalrymen and foot soldiers had no idea that they were running headlong to their deaths.
"These fucking idiots!" I uttered through gritted teeth, "Stat wise, these Spirit Devouring Devils are at least 20% stronger than all the mobs we have fought in the Ancient Chaotic Secret Realm until now. They don’t even belong in the same weight class!"
Du Thirteen said, "You can’t save people who won’t save themselves, man."
Li Chengfeng nodded. "Hold tight, frontliners!"
About 500 meters away from the city walls, the guilds who decided to break the line finally clashed against the Spirit Devouring Devils. The outcome was about as bad as I expected it to be. The second the Spirit Devouring Devils got within range, they immediately jumped into the air and thrust their arms at the players. As it turned out, their arms could be spun like a drill—it was none other than the skill "Dark Thrust"—and they dealt at least 300k damage to an unguarded cavalryman. It was nothing compared to the skill, "Spirit Devouring" though. It converted 30% of its damage dealt to HP, which basically meant that it was a 30% lifesteal. How could those players possibly stop them?
Puchi!
I saw a Spirit Devouring Devil leaping into the air and biting a magic knight on the neck, dealing over 370k damage to him. Then, it sank its claws into the poor man’s torso and shredded his innards into itty bitty pieces. The poor guy was dead before he even managed to let out a death scream. The same thing was happening to the tens of thousands players who rushed out prematurely. It was like watching a locust swarm absolutely annihilating a rice field. It didn’t take long before the poor bastards were utterly massacred, but still the Spirit Devouring Devils were nowhere satisfied. They charged us as if they wouldn’t stop until we were all dead.
As the sea of Spirit Devouring Devils approached, I abruptly raised my sword and hollered, "Together with Dreaming Souls, our Ancient Sword paves the way! Frontliners, Holy Shield Protection!"
