Chapter 78 Word Magic

Word magic was simple. One just had to write something in the air with mana, and the mana would become that something. For example, if the caster writes Fire Arrow, the words will become a Fire Arrow after a few seconds and then fly toward the target. Although in the beginning, the caster has to waste a lot of time to cast a single spell, it gets better late because the users can obtain all kinds of effects by using word magic. For example, the caster could write the words: Fast Conjuration, and the caster would be able to write faster than before. As if that wasn\'t amazing enough, the more mana one uses when writing, the more powerful the effects can become. The best example was what Hannah could do with a single fire arrow; she actually could destroy a five meters tall building.

Hannah spent the whole afternoon teaching Ethan how to use the word magic, but in the end, he failed miserably. His mana couldn\'t even keep their shape for a full second, much less assume an elemental form.

"You have disappointed me, Ethan," Hannah shook her head.

"Don\'t talk as if the sole reason I didn\'t learn this is my lack of talent," Ethan frowned. "If I could learn word magic, it would be way too weird. I already have very convenient powers, after all."

Despite saying that, Ethan knew he could learn the word magic by using Omni Hero. However, he would choose death over taking Hannah\'s memories, and he wouldn\'t have to think for more than a second.

"This is enough for today," Ethan said. "I don\'t want to make you spend your day off wasting time and effort with me. In any case, you still can teach me other things, and I will be counting on you for that, big sis."

"I guess that is fine," Hannah said. "We can always go for that simple and boring type of magic."

It has been a while since the whole family spent a weekend together, so Michael and Evelyn decided to watch some movies with their kids. On Sunday, Nuvian joined them, but that only made things more interesting. Although relaxing like that wasn\'t so bad. Ethan also made sure to train his spells while he was watching the movies. Hannah couldn\'t help but frown when she noticed that. It looked like Ethan forgot the meaning of the words \'take it easy.\'

Even though Ethan didn\'t move his body all that much, he was quite satisfied with his progress. After all, he made all the support skills he learned that week level up two times. At that pace, he indeed would be able to train those spells to a pretty good level in his free time. He just has to increase his mana regeneration a little bit.

"I forgot about those skills, huh? I wonder how I can relearn them."

Ethan was having a hard time believing that just one week had passed since he came to the school. So many things happened… and he already got the attention of some weirdoes and troublesome fellows. One of them had apparently been waiting for him at the plaza.

"Heya," Ian said. "I need to inform you that the whole team will be selected on Friday, and the expedition will start on Saturday of the next week. My father is a pretty serious and organized man, and he might make some adjustments to his plans. Still, he won\'t recognize anyone after Friday for the mission. So, that is your date limit to reach the fifteenth floor."

"Is that so?" Ethan asked, not looking even a little bit worried.

"Yeah, in any case, the boss of the fifteenth floor is quite interesting," Ian said. "Instead of watching a record, you need to call me when you plan to fight them. It will be more interesting that way."

"I will think about it," Ethan said.

That week would be busy since Ethan was planning to increase his rank and also reach that stage of the simulator. So, he couldn\'t slack off in any of the classes, and he would have to study seriously for the first time in a while. That being said, Ethan was quite confident. To pass the test of the sword dance class, he just has to perform some movements in a spar with their classmates. Ian will be the best guinea pig for that. As for archery and alchemy, Ethan just needed to spend a day practicing them, and he will reach the desired level. His practice with Emily was also progressing well… the only problem was the theoretical classes.

Although that only happened a few times, Ethan, Emily, and Ian reunited in one of the simulators\' rooms. Still, he was already feeling like that was something pretty normal.

"Well, the last three spells are a bit more difficult to master than the others," Emily said while she was putting on the Walker Boots. "The support spells need a certain amount of mana, and they can work for a certain period, but those three are a bit different. They have a cost over time, so if you lose your focus, the spell will be canceled. Usually, this is something only mages can use, even though they mostly use it to help their allies. However, with some effort, even melee fighters like you two should be able to pull off."

That sounded quite similar to Ethan\'s Neutral Enchantment. Although Emily\'s words made sense, for some reason, Ethan could control those skills pretty well. Maybe it was thanks to his system, but he had uncanny control over his mana.

pαndα`noνɐ1--сoМ "Heh, so you are finally admitting that you are teaching me as well," Ian smirked.

"Shut up before I change my mind," Emily sighed.

Emily began a demonstration. First of all, she enveloped her fist with mana, and in the next moment, the mana began to emit heat until her arms got involved in a reddish aura. As one would expect, her fist was suffering any damage. In fact, Emily couldn\'t even feel the heat.

"Although learning this isn\'t hard, the goal here is to change the nature of mana without wounding yourself," Emily said. "Let\'s see you two try."
